This week we journeyed through time from the present day (2019 AD), all the way back through the Bronze Age and Iron Age to the Stone Age, 2.5 million years ago!
Children revisited key events in history, including the Great Fire of London, the Gunpowder plot, and even Mr Cavanagh and Mrs Hawkins' Birthdays! We then worked together to plot all of these on to very special timelines. This week we launched our topic: Fire Starters!
We became superb archaeologists and did a little digging to find out more about our fantastic topic which takes up back thousands of years to the Stone Age! We very carefully brushed our evidence to reveal a bit of information about our Stone Age friends before recording our evidence in our books. Great work Year 3! Year 3 had a wonderful day at Stockbridge Technology Centre. We tasted different fruits and cheeses, ate tomatoes off the vine in the greenhouses, made our own pizzas using fresh ingredients and baked and decorated our own fairy cakes. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day and thank fully the rain didn't come. Here are some pictures to remind us of the day .......
We had a special guest appearance last week when Romeo brought in his guitar and rocked Year 3. Thank you so much to Romeo and his family because we loved it!!! Hope you enjoy it too. Year 3 and 4 had a lovely afternoon completing their races for Sport's Day. The sun was shining and all our children were representing their country, France, Germany, Japan, USA and Spain. Thank you to everyone who came along to support us. We hope you had as much fun as us.
Harry Potter magic hit Year 3 on Thursday as a special pack of scrolls arrived in the school reception. We needed a special magic potion to reveal our very own spell. All we needed to do then was decide what our spell might be for. Here are some pictures of our spells..... We had a wonderful Family Fun session creating our very own Picasso heads using a range of paper materials. Thank you to all our parents who got stuck into this very messy task, the results were outstanding. Thank you for all your support this year at these sessions, we could not do it without you. Here is a little reminder of the morning .....
In Year 3 we have been learning all about plants. We now have an understanding of pollination, germination and dispersal. So, this week we looked at how we could make a seed which would disperse in one of the following ways; by wind, water, drop and roll, catch a ride on an animal, seeds as food. This is what Year 3 came up with. They are a very creative group.
This week in Year 3, we have continued our reseach into how we can save the bees and help to save the world! Using a variety of sources, we have gathered information to create an engaging powerpoint which we then presented in our classes. We have also been thinking about how bees help us by pollinating plants. In science, we even dissected a flower to take a look at exactly what a bees do in there! |
