This week we have dipped our toes into learning a new skill.
Mr Fuller, from the music service, arrived in school to teach us all about playing the Ukulele! We got our hands on a ukulele have started to learn some basic chords. Next week we'll be able to take them home for the first time. Watch out parents! Here we come!!! Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the Y4 Welcome Meeting. We hope you found the information useful! Inside your information packs you will find resources to support your child at home and important dates coming up throughout the year.
This term, our topic is the 'Romans'. We are going back in time to learn all about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. In our history lessons, we will be looking at how the Roman Empire spread and using our map skills to locate the world's countries, focusing specifically on Europe, in geography.
We started our topic this week by discussing what we already know about the Romans and what we would like to find out. Some of the questions we would like to find out the answers to are: Where did the Romans come from? When did the Roman Empire exist? Why did they want to invade Britain? Who was Boudicca? Look out for our amazing topic work yet to come! Our Golden Rule this week was 'Be Gentle'.
Our winners this week were Sebastian and Reuben! Well done boys! Year 4 had a great time learning all of the songs and lines for our Easter production, the Easter Express. This week we performed in front of the whole school and our parents. When we performed for our parents it was straight after our Ukulele concert. By the end of it all we were shattered but very proud of ourselves. Thankyou to all the parents who came to watch. We hope you enjoyed it. A selection of our wonderful cast and stars
Last week, Year 4 had a great time at Bradford Science and Media Museum learning all about sound. We went into the Wonderlab and took part in a fantastic workshop called ‘Bring The Thunder’. Through lots of practical experiments we were able to see how sounds are made, changed and how they travel to our ears.
Thursday 14th February, we welcomed Mr Singh, a special Sikh visitor, into school. He filled our day with interesting information, calmness and ideas for leading a peaceful, happy fulfilled life. At the end of the day, all Year 4, including the adults, felt they knew lots about Sikhism and its followers. They could relate the information to the Christian religion, suggesting similarities and differences. Year 4 have had fun and worked really hard creating presentations for their Buzz! games. The children were nervous but excited when they performed their presentation. They also wrote letters to a local toy store persuading them to sell their toy.
They included exaggerated, persuasive sentences to make the reader believe they really need to stock the toy. We are loving our new topic electricity.
We have been around school looking for different appliances that run off the mains or that use batteries. We even discovered some things that were solar powered. Last week, we were given wires, batteries, bulbs and crocodile clips and set with the challenge to make the bulb light up. We found out that it needs to be in a full circuit without any breaks for the electrical current to flow around in order for the bulb to light up. Some of us found it frustrating at first when we couldn't figure out how to put the circuit together correctly, but with great determination and perserverance we kept going and we were delighted when the bulb finally lit! |
