Today the Roman's have invaded Year 4! A visitor has been in today showing and telling us all about The Roman's. We have been learning about how The Empire grew and the skilful efficiency of the Roman Army. Discovering the contents of the soldier's packs, we found lots of interesting items particularly a sponge on a stick! I wonder what that was for? The afternoon was full of activities: we made oil lamps; made a game; became Roman Soldiers and drew Roman Artefacts. What an exciting day!

Today was a big day for Year 4. The hard work of the last few weeks was over and now it was time to perform - and perform they did! With gusto, the children took to the stage and performed for both school and their parents. The singing was beautiful and acting was amazing. An egg-stra special mention to the soloists and Jesus - you were brilliant! Year 4 made everyone very proud! Listen to our wonderful singing below. This week we have been learning about division. It has been fun getting outside and active with our maths learning. We have been using concrete apparatus to further our learning in the classroom. Division is fun! Today we celebrated World Book Day. We dressed up as characters from a book - there were lots of witches and wizards in Year 4! We had a lovely time reading with Mrs Banks's and Mrs Housden's Classes and sharing stories! Today was also Miss Conway's final day. It has been wonderful having her teach and work with us. We wish her all the best in the future! This week, both Year 4 classes have visited an apothecary in Rotherham. With Magic pulsing throughout the building, the children were amazed as they ventured beyond the bookcase to the secret story area. Inspiration and imagination were the aims of the day, as the children came up with interesting characters, fascinating settings and brilliant plots. All children wanted to write! Thanks Grimm and Co, we look forward to visiting again! We have been reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and have had a potions lesson in maths. We made a shrinking and growing potion using our knowledge of multiplying and diving by 10 and 100! Oh and measuring of course! Look at our fantastic potions and make sure you always check the label when you have a drink!
As part of our Roman topic we are looking at how they influenced life in Britain. Their inventions and ingenuity when it came to structures particularly roads and bridges changed life in Britain. In our Family Fun Session, we build bridges - they had to be at least 30cm long; be able to withhold different weights up to 500g and be wide enough for a toy car to drive across. All groups were given the same materials (straws, card and tape) to make it fair. There were some ingenious designs! Well done Year 4 children and carers! In Year 4, we have written our own Christmas Story to read to our Foundation Stage Children. We thought about stories they may like to read and used our knowledge from different Christmas stories and films. We really enjoyed sharing our work.
It's Christmas time, a time to celebrate! Lower Key Stage Two had a wonderful party, lots of games, fun and dancing was had by all! Merry Christmas! As it is nearing Christmas, in RE we have been learning about how Christians celebrate Christmas and wondered if Christians in different cultures celebrated it differently. We found that their were Christians all over the world and surprisingly their traditions differed. Parents and children alike found new knowledge and information!
