John visited us from the RSPB. He is based at the Old Moor Wetlands Centre and told us so much information about birds. We looked at the colours of garden birds and the different noises that they make. Some of the birds sing songs and others make noises that we thought sounded like car alarms. The bullfinch sounded like a frog!
We have got our binoculars out and are going to look on the field and see how many different types of birds we can spot.

Team Activ ran a sports event in school for our FS2 children. The children were divided into teams and worked so hard on their activities. They were supportive of their friends and tried right up to the end, giving their all. We were very proud of their effort levels and attitudes.
The children were the most excited we have ever seen them! They really couldn't wait to get on the coach and go! When we arrived we went in a special room and put our high visibility vests on. Our first activity was to mould and shape a large piece of dough, ready for the baker to bake in the oven. Then we had a tour of the staff areas of the supermarket. We saw the staffroom, warehouse, freezer and loading area. Next we had a challenge to find different coloured fruit and vegetables. We visited the fish counter and identified different kinds of fish. Then we enjoyed tasting different types of fruit and cheese. Some were more popular than others!
Lastly, before we came back to school, we were given our loaves. The bread was still hot and the children's designs were very impressive! Dance and drama is a big part of our foundation stage curriculum. We had a special visitor on Wednesday. The Funky Fairy came to ask for our help. Eddie the elf was having terrible problems with his sleigh and he needed us to help him! As part of our drama we got dressed in boots, scarves and gloves, went through a snow blizzard and created amazing flying machines, all with our imagination! Have a look at our photos and see if you can work out what we are doing!
The FS2 and Year 6 children partnered up for our walk. The Year 6 children were so gentle towards the younger children, talking to them as they walked along.
The children listened to Mrs Blewitt from Bookstart talking about the library and she read some stories and sang some rhymes with us. The children read stories together, and new friendships were formed! We are hoping to visit the library again in the Summer term Here are a few of the photos we took of the children in their Christmas jumpers. We had a lovely Christmas dinner and the children were so excited about the change in our uniform!
In FS2 we thought about how we can make other people feel happy. We have focused on being ‘a good friend’ and all told our friends something that we think is special about them. We read a book called 'Only one you' and talked about the story. All the fish in the story are different and they are all special. Just like us!
Mrs Blewitt from Book Start visited us today. She read us some stories, taught us some new songs and even left us with a present! The children were so pleased with their new book, and we all said a big 'thank you' to Mrs Blewitt.
We have been learning about different celebrations. This week it was birthday week! Billy and Bethany, our class bears, had their birthday party. The preparations for the party kept us very busy. We made party invitations and birthday cards. The children decided jelly was very important, so we made 5 different flavours of jelly. We read the instructions together and watched as the cubes turned from solid to liquid, then put it in the fridge to make it solid again. The party day was so much fun!
The children were so excited about the prospect of Halloween, telling us daily about the costumes they had bought or made and how they intended to celebrate. We thought we should make the most of their enthusiasm and bought some different types of pumpkins for the children to look at. They were amazed at the different sizes of pumpkin available, and surprisingly most of the children actually preferred the tiniest one! We then cut open the pumpkins and let the children investigate what was inside. There were some very interesting words that came from our investigation. These are just a few of them - smelly, squishy, mushy, gooey, slimy, slippery!
