Year 3 had a wonderful trip to York on Wednesday to visit the Chocolate Story. We found out all about where chocolate originates from and the story of the York Chocolate factories. We looked at how our chocolate bars are made and tried some different chocolate as we moved around. We also decorated our very own chocolate lollies. We had a wonderful time and all Year 3 did us proud. Here are some pictures of our day ......

In Science this half term we have been investigating magnets. In week 1 we completed our own scrapyard challenge where children investigated which materials the magnets could attract. In week 2 we looked at magnet strength and completed an experiment to see which type of magnet could attract the most paper clips in a string. Here are some photos of our science fun.
Year 3 have started their new topic named Choco Block. We are looking at all things chocolate including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This week we completed an experiment to test whether a coated chocolate lasted longer than a chocolate button when held in our hands. The children held a minstrel in one hand and a button in the other while their teacher read the poem Chocolate by Michael Rosen. Then they showed us the results. Here they are...... To complete our research into the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, Year 3 enjoyed a day at Creswell Crags, near Worksop. We spent the day as Stone Age people, hunting reindeer, building shelters, lighting fires, creating cave art and even exploring a Stone Age cave! All of Year 3 were invited to Barnsley College to take part in a regional Indoor Athletics competition. We had a fantastic afternoon with all children trying a variety of different track and field events! All six teams performed very well and demonstrated their sporting prowess, competing with 3 other schools.
Last week Year 3 were visited by the local fire service! We learned a lot about their Fire Safety Project, including the importance of having working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan. We also learned how to make a 999 call in case we are ever in an emergency.
Year 3 have been thinking about bullying and this year's Anti-Bullying week theme of 'Choose Respect'. We worked together to think about what this means to us and why it is important to Respect each other.
We have been working hard in Year 3 to remember all of the service men and women in the armed forces who have fought in wars to protect the country. We discussed the importance of World War One and why we use poppies as a symbol of remembrance. We also hand-made our very own poppy to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice at the end of World War One and wrote a formal letter to Sergeant Stubby, a brave dog who helped with the war effort, to say thank you for the sacrifices he made.
Thank you to all of Year 3's lovely parents for coming along to our Family Fun Session Monday morning. We had lots of fun creating cave art which is now adorning the walls of the display boards outside Year 3 classrooms. What a wonderful backdrop for our children's amazing Stone Age Boy stories. Thank you again! This week in year 3, we became Stone Age artists! The children entered their very own Stone Age cave and created cave painting masterpieces! We have also continued our exploration into light and dark, looking at how shadows are formed and how they change.
