We would like to say a warm welcome to all the new families who have started at High View this week. We have combined our morning and afternoon nursery children and children from other nurseries all around Barnsley into 2 classes. It has been a busy time getting to know everyone! The children have stayed at school for lunch for the first time and managed really well in the hall.
You all look so smart in your blue jumpers children! We can't wait to see you again next week.

In foundation stage we all took part in the 'race for life'. We ran two laps of the school field, we thought this was a long way for such young children but they were super quick and definitely rose to the challenge. We had a presentation ceremony where the children received their medals proudly.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and carers who came with us on our trip. We were so grateful to all of you for making it such a memorable day for the children. The sun was shining for us, we couldn't have picked a better day! We saw many of the animals up close and moving around. We all came away having discovered lots of interesting facts about the animals and their habitats.
As part of our 'health and sports week' we had a visit from Freddy Fit. We took part in his exercise class and listened as he told us how to live a healthy lifestyle. We should exercise every day, drink lots of water and eat 5 different kinds of fruit and vegetables every day. Freddy was so impressed with foundation stage, their hula-hooping skills were amazing! The children were very surprised when they were told that the RNLI and mountain rescue are funded by donations and wanted to help. Together they wrote a letter to the other children in school asking them to take part in a non-uniform day. We then split the proceeds between these two organisations. The children were very proud to talk about how they had planned the day and that we were helping to buy equipment that might save someone's life.
Thomas came to visit FS for the whole morning. He seemed very happy in our classroom and wanted to explore. He was a much faster mover that the children expected and surprised us all by climbing straight out of the tuff spot. We found out about his favourite foods, where he lives and even about his holidays to the seaside! Thomas is at least 35 years old but the children were fascinated to learn that we don't know exactly how old he is, just that he has lived with his current family for 35 years.
Our new topic is 'animal encounters' and to start if off on the very first day after the holidays we had some unusual visitors to our school. We had to be very quiet so that we didn't scare the animals. We saw a skunk, tarantula, snake, lizard, tortoise, rabbits, guinea pigs and millipedes. Quite an assortment! We found out so much about the habits of these animals, it was a wonderful informative day.
This week we have been learning about emergency situations at the coast and how to keep ourselves safe when we go to the seaside. Mrs Cameron is part of the education team and told us lots of important information about what the flags on the beaches mean and how to avoid dangerous situations.
This week we have continued to think about emergency services and have focussed on mountain rescue. We were very lucky to have some visitors from Mountain Rescue to talk to us about what they do. They are based at Glossop and cover the Barnsley area. Tony showed us what was in the rucksack that the rescuers carry. We were surprised that there was so much equipment in it. It was very very heavy!
On the day that the Tour de Yorkshire came through Barnsley we all wore sporty clothes. We made the most of our day and did lots of exercise. Here are some of our Freddy Fit photos.
